Small demo of a platformer about a money-changer's apprentice that fights his way up the Tōkaidō with a cord of bronze coins used as a whip to swing around levels and defeat enemies gathering money to pay a debt.

You can also download the ROM and play it on a GB Emulator or on real gameboy hardware. There is also a pocket version.

Play on Gameboy color for no lag.

Click on the game's browser window to enable sound, quirk of the web gameboy emulator.

PC Controls:

Up = ArrowUp or W

Down = ArrowDown or S

Left = ArrowLeft or A

Right = ArrowRight or D

A = Alt, Z or J

B = Control, X or K

Start = Enter

Select = Shift

"Basic" controls:

Press Start to skip the intro or pause the game

Pressing A will make Zenta jump

Pressing B will sling the money cord in front of Zenta

Holding a directional input (up, up-right, right, down-right, down, etc) and Pressing B will sling the money cord in that direction

Holding B will keep the cord hooked to whatever it is attached to

Releasing B will unhook the cord.

Pressing B or A at the town post will interact with the building

Pressing Up in front of a road shrine or a chest will interact with it

The more mons you collect on your cord, the longer it'll extend

Holding A can help a bit with getting more high when swinging

This is neat! The cord mechanic reminds me a bit of Umihara Kawase for the SNES.

Super cool mechanic that I can imagine speedrunners would love to push to the limit. Great pixel art, clean, readable and nice layering.

Thanks! I'll see if there's interest. What would have been left to do is the other half of the levels that I couldnt finish on time and some much needed polish on things (like gameplay tweaks or anything that is using the default dialogue menus would have been revamped if I had the time)

we are sure few people would be interested. your base is just too good to not develop it further.
